Leadership DevelopmentWe believe leadership develops internally beginning with a deep understanding of the self, and blossoms externally from learning how to empathize, engage and communicate with others. In our integrated model, leaders need to acquire a balance of expertise in each of the three domains of leadership: self, others and work. It is from integrating understanding of the self, others and the marketplace that leadership capacity is enhanced.
The domain of self includes an individual’s innate qualities and characteristics, while emotional intelligence refers to an individual’s ability to understand and control his or her emotions as well as the ability to deal with and manage the emotions of others. Communication skills include the ability to actively listen, ask the right questions, and communicate in ways that enable other people to understand and respond appropriately. The domain of work includes the business skills of defining and setting tactical and strategic goals, problem solving, and achieving goals and desired outcomes. Each domain includes different characteristics and skills. A leader might not be equally strong in each of the characteristics and skills within a domain, but in order to be successful as a leader, there must be a balance of skills across the domains. The leader cycles through this iterative process as he or she continually develops and grows through the coaching partnership. We work with our clients to assist them in developing and stretching in each domain because we believe that integrated leaders know how to manage themselves, others and their businesses. |
People Are Saying...“I had the pleasure of working with Ginny for over two years at a pivotal stage in my career development as a manager and emerging company leader. During this period, I went through several role changes each of which challenged me to take on responsibility for functions that were beyond my previous technical experience, that required me to develop and lead new and larger teams, and that required new vision and direction. I am confident in saying that I was able to meet these challenges successfully -- but I couldn't have done it without Ginny's support. Ginny was committed to my success every step of the way. Ginny became a real partner providing objectivity, guidance and feedback as well as lending practical real business experience and acumen that challenged me to think differently about defining my leadership style and tackling issues from influence and communication to organizational design, process and programs. What's more, Ginny also made sure that she considered me as a whole person and how my life external to work influences and impacts my performance at work. I credit her for helping me to explore this relationship which has proved pivotal in helping me to really come into 'my own' if you will in my career…to really own it. With that I gained greater confidence as a leader, was able to better leverage relationships with colleagues and become a better leader and manager to my team and will ultimately allow me to achieve greater success in the future.” Director Global Marketing, Financial Services Company
